College Hunks Hauling Junk was born in the summer of 2003, when Nick and his best friend Omar hauled junk using an old cargo van. That summer, they did the hard labor themselves - and made $8,000. It was their first taste of entrepreneurship.

The business plan won the University of Miami’s Rothschild Entrepreneurship Competition. While other junk services had poor appearances and were local, they envisioned a fully branded, clean appearance, scalable national franchise.

After a few months in the corporate game, Nick and Omar decided that they wanted to turn CHHJ into a reality.

Thanks to the highly marketable brand and detailed operating systems, they supassed $1.2 million in annual sales in their second year.

The Franchise

Summer 2008

Once the system proved successful locally, Nick and Omar expanded to a national franchise, becoming the youngest franchisors in America at the time.

They relocated their national headquarters to Tampa FL to open a call center that would support their franchise owners.

Fall 2009

Nick aired in the debut episode of hit show, Shark Tank, and kicked off his career in television.

Since then, Nick has been on Millionaire Matchmaker, The Pitch, House Hunters, Jobs That Don’t Suck, and Below Deck. Each “performed incredibly well compared to other episodes of those shows that had aired at the time”, according to Alan Moore, a Casting Agent from APA Agency.

Fall 2010

In 2011, Nick co-authored the best-selling book, Effortless Entrepreneur, which chronicles College Hunks Hauling Junk’s growth from van to franchise, and the ten business commandments that you can apply to do the same.

After the release of Effortless Entrepreneur, Nick began to speak at universities, events, and conferences about the College Hunks story and the business truths he learned along the way.

CHHJ Today

Summer 2015

College Hunks is now a large national franchise, with over 60 locations nationwide. Their headquarters in Tampa, FL, employs nearly 100 people. The business does over $30 million in revenues annually.

In 2009, it appeared on Inc’s 500 Fastest Growing Companies list, and in 2013 College Hunks won the Franchise 500 Award.

In 2008, Friedman was one of Inc’s Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30.

Bisnow.com named him one of the Top 35 Entrepreneurs Under 35. Nick was also an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award Finalist.

Friedman is an active board member of the prestigious Entrepreneur’s Organization.

Nick and Omar were featured in Newsweek article, "College Kid to Millionaire", which also included the founders of Facebook, Fedex, Dell Computers, Google, and Microsoft.
